Live Chat with Q&A: Colin Sanctuary - UK to Sydney to Tonga

In this ESSA Live Chat with Q&A, Colin Sanctuary shares how his wealth of professional experience from the UK to the Newcastle Knights to the NSW Rugby League was utilised in a research project for increasing the foundational movement skills of school students in NSW and an expedition to Tonga and the Tongan Ministry of Education. Colin will share how key learnings from all his experience culminated in the project in Tonga.

Colin is currently a lecturer at the University of Newcastle in the discipline of Exercise and Sport Science where he leads industry placements & engagement and the development of professional skills in EXSS students to prepare them for work once they graduate.

Originally from the UK, Colin has held the positions of, Player Development Manager for New South Wales Rugby League responsible for overseeing the development and performance of the NSW State of Origin Pathways players, Performance Director of the High Performance Unit for the Newcastle Knights RL, Head of Performance at Wakefield Trinity RL in the English Super League, Head of Conditioning and Sports Science at Durham County Cricket Club, and numerous other roles in the UK in Soccer, Hockey & Netball. He also previously worked for the University of York St John and even Barclays Bank before transitioning as a mature student into a career in sport. Finally, Colin completed his Doctorate in 2007, which examined the Factors for Success in English Professional Cricket, and hold accreditations in Sports Science with ESSA & BASES as well as in Strength & Conditioning with the ASCA & UKSCA.
