Exercise for Burn Injury Webinar

Exercise for Burn Injury Webinar

Advancements in clinical practice have significantly improved survival from even the most severe burn injuries. However, recent research indicates that there are numerous physical, physiological and psychological side-effects of a burn that can significantly impact health and quality of life many years after the injury actually occurs. Exercise is an important part of modern-day burns care, with the latest evidence showing benefits may be more widespread than ever realised. This webinar aims to provide an overview of burn injury, current practice guidelines and future directions based on the most up-and-coming research.

Presented by Dr. Treya Long, AES, AEP

Dr. Long is an accredited exercise physiologist (AEP), adjunct research fellow and lecturer specialising in child and adolescent health. She has both clinical and research experience working in oncology, cardiology, burns and acute mental health, and is a passionate advocate for including exercise medicine into routine clinical care. Around her research and clinical work, Dr. Long enjoys lecturing and supervising Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology students. She is currently helping to establish a hospital-based Exercise Medicine Service in Western Australia that will provide tailored exercise to children and adolescents with burn injury, cancer, type II diabetes and cerebral palsy.
