Athlete Mental Health

This onlin activity thoughtfully explores the evolution of athlete mental health.  A large amount of mental energy and focused attention is required to master a task, execute a skill or problem solve.  Just like physical energy, mental energy also needs to be refreshed and refueled.  Refueling mental energy is becoming increasingly difficult in a world captured by the busyness of interactive technology.  Our youth are being seductively solicited by the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Computer Games, where thousands of professionals behind your screen, develop programs to entice your individuals to switch-on and not want to switch-off.  Their developing brains just can’t compete.  This online activity looks at the content Clews included in her ground breaking book on athlete mental health “Wired to Play: The Metacognitive Athlete”.  The elite athlete’s she interviewed and the challenges they shared.  With a focus on normalising mental health discussions with your own athletes.

The recording is of a webinar presented by ESSA on 17 April 2020.
